5 WAYS TO UPDATE YOUR HOME ON A BUDGET

Sometimes it is possible to look around your home and experience a lack of inspiration or dissatisfaction with what you see. What you like in one season of your life may not be the thing you like in another season and that’s okay. It’s alright to want change and to seek new ways of expressing yourself. The space you live in is an intimate expression of who you are and as such, you should not ignore that nudge to refresh it every now and then.

1. Change up your curtains, beddings and throw pillows

Curtains, beddings and throw pillows have the potential to completely transform your space. The options are endless when it comes to these items. For starters you can go for sheer curtains. These allow natural light into a room, making it brighter and feel bigger.

Updating your bedding gives a new feel to your bedroom since it is the centerpiece of your bedroom. You can play around with colors and different textures or stick to neutrals if bold colors aren’t your thing.

Throw pillows add beauty to a room be it the bedroom or living space. You can switch them up and add fresh ones depending on the mood or season you are in.

2. Trade your old hardware for new ones

It is amazing the change that new hardware can bring into a space. In your kitchen for example, you can opt for a new faucet and new handles for your drawers. Same goes for door knobs and handles for your dresser. You can choose these in terms of color, patterns or material. They may seem like little details incapable of making a difference but it might shock you just how much change they can bring to a space.

3. Change the area rug

Rugs define a space and bring warmth to it. They have the ability to tie in all other surrounding items together, if and when chosen well. Consider the color, texture and patterns you want to have on your rug and it ties in with the rest of your space. A new rug is a definite way to redefine your space.

4. Incorporate greenery

You don’t have to be a full on plant mom or plant dad but you can find ways to incorporate greenery into your home. You can display a plan on one of your shelves, or hang it up or place it on the floor strategically so that it adds life and beauty to your space. Research on the best indoor plants or consult your local plant shop. If you are too busy to take care of a plant or are not willing to commit to taking care of one, you can opt for artificial plants which look like the real thing, but have little to no maintenance.

5. Do something different with your walls

There is so much you can do with your walls. For instance, you can give them a fresh coat of paint, apply wallpaper, make an accent or statement wall or even create a gallery wall. An accent wall is a wall whose design differs from that of the other walls in the room. He color therefore or material of the accent wall differs from the rest of the walls. A gallery wall comprises of a collection of framed art, photos or personal items grouped and hung together in a specific pattern. This can be a fun project for you to put together and if in need of inspiration, Pinterest has millions of ideas on the same.

There are so many things you can do to make changes to your space. These five are a good place to start. They are relatively affordable yet they will make a huge difference in your home.

For some of us who grew up in farms then have to spend the most of our lives between offices and traveling to/from work, i guess a touch of greenery at home could make quite a difference.
